Cut the tofu into wide sticks and place on a few layers of kitchen paper, cover with a few more layers, weigh down and drain for about 15 minutes.
Mix all other ingredients, except for the BBQ sauce, into a marinade. Put together with tofu in a zip bag, seal airtight and leave to marinate for at least 2 hours or, preferably, overnight.
Remove the tofu from the marinade and dab with kitchen paper. Place individual tofu sticks lengthways on grill skewers and brush with BBQ sauce on all sides.
Heat the grill and place the skewers on the grill in the indirect heat. Turn the grill every now and then for about 10 minutes. Brush with BBQ sauce again depending on the 5 and 10 minutes of grilling time. Grill until there are grill marks and the tofu skewers have reached the desired browning.
Sprinkle the grilled tofu with steak seasoning and serve warm.
